Speaker Rick Zimmerman
Rick Zimmerman’s career in safety began in 1978 at Iowa Beef Processors, now Tyson Foods in Pasco where a good week was only one ambulance run to the hospital. The majority of his career was at the Hanford Site where he held supported a variety of contractors and organizations. Some of his most interesting assignments included:
1) Purposely creating an IDLH atmosphere for a military training exercise at the HAMMER.
2) Approving the restart of the N-Reactor as the only non-manager of an 11-member Company sponsored Restart Readiness Review Team.
3) Developing presentations and coaching Union members to be presenters at several national conferences.
4) Pointing out an error to the NFPA 70E Committee that had been missed through several revisions.
Even though he has retired, Rick’s passion for safety is not fading as he is very involved on the Columbia Basin College’s Industrial Health and Safety Advisory Board.
